According to local media reports, the concrete porch of the train station in Novi Sad collapsed for an unknown reason at noon. 13 people trapped in the debris at the site of the collapse died, and 4 injured people were taken to hospital.
STATEMENT FROM PRIME MINISTER VUCEVIC
Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic came to the location of the train station and received information from the authorities.
Prime Minister Vucevic, in his statement, noted that the building was built in 1964, the incident will be investigated and those who were negligent must be held accountable.
13 DEAD, 4 INJURED
Minister Dacic also stated that the death toll increased to 13 with the removal of the lifeless bodies of 5 more people from the rubble, that they thought there was no one else in the rubble, and that 3 of the 4 people who were hospitalized were in serious condition.
Dacic stated that 2 people who were in the wreckage and whom they contacted were rescued, and stated that search and rescue efforts were continuing and 80 people were working at the scene.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also came to the scene and received information from the ministers.
A NATIONAL MOURNING WAS DECLARED
The government declared November 2 as a national day of mourning.
