Goodluck Opiah, Rivers State Oil Resources Commissioner, said in a statement that an explosion occurred at an illegal oil refinery in Rivers state last night.

Opiah stated that at least 100 people were burned to death in the fire that broke out after the explosion.
Despite the government’s efforts, Nigeria has a large number of illegal oil refineries in Africa, rich in oil and gas.
The government announced that 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day were lost in the country due to oil theft and vandalism.
In October 2021, an explosion at an illegal oil refinery in Rivers state of Nigeria killed 25 people. (AA)
