Esapekka Lappi crashed out in Saturday’s opening of the World Rally Championship in Mexico and had to retire from the top spot.
Hyundai’s Esapekka Lappi experienced a rough disappointment in the Mexico World Rally. Lappi, who started from the top position until Saturday, immediately stopped at the first special test of the day.
Lapland’s car spun on the right side of the road and derailed. Lappi hit an electric pole, which fell onto the road. The special test had to be interrupted. The car company had about two thirds of its length in the back during the special test.
A small fire broke out in the car, but it was quickly put out. Lapland and the map reader Janne Ferm were not injured in the drive-out.
– Oh damn, map reader Ferm sighed right after the wild situation.
French Toyota driver Sebastien Ogier rose to the top of the MM rally after Lapland’s outing.
– Pity. I always enjoy hard fights. Lapland was incredibly fast on Friday, it’s a shame, commented Ogier.
Lapland’s World Cup rally had started brilliantly. Lappi absolutely dominated the events on Friday and even described his driving day as the best of his entire career.
