Terraced house in flames – the public is asked to stay indoors

There is a fire in a block of terraced houses in Berghem, in Umeå municipality, with heavy smoke developing as a result. A VMA, an important message to the public, has gone out to nearby residents who are asked to stay indoors and to close windows, doors and ventilation. It was early on Saturday morning, at 05.30, that the alarm came in. According to SOS Alarm, there is a fire in the attic of two townhouses in a row of townhouses. According to the police, four of the houses have been evacuated. At 10 o’clock, the emergency services are waiting for a crane truck to lift the roof to facilitate the extinguishing work. No information on injuries There are no information on injuries, but a number of people have had to go to hospital after inhaling smoke. – Some people have gone to the emergency room for a check-up and someone must have inhaled smoke, says Elisabeth Glaas, the police’s spokesperson to TT. There is no information yet on how the fire started, but the police have opened a preliminary investigation into arson. There are also no suspects in the case, the police write on their website.
