(Finance) – In 2024have been authorized 25 development projects for the national electricity gridfor a total value of over 2.3 billion euros. The interventions confirm the crucial role of Terna, the company led by Giuseppina Di Foggia, in the Italian energy transition and underline the effective collaboration with the institutions.
The works will bring environmental, social and economic benefits: the more than 560 km of new underwater or underground lines will result in a reduction of landscape impact and environmental, eliminating approximately 100 supports and freeing over 70 hectares of territory, with positive effects for local communities.
Among the most relevant projects approved this year by MASE are i three large submarine links: Elmedthe energy bridge between Italy and Tunisia, which passes through the Sicilian Channel, built by Terna in collaboration with STEG and co-financed with 307 million euros by the European program Connecting Europe Facility; the Adriatic Linka submarine connection between Marche and Abruzzo, included in the PNIEC, which will improve the security and flexibility of the national electricity system, facilitating the integration of renewable sources; the Bolano-Annunziata power linethe 380 kV alternating current interconnection between Calabria and Sicily, which will increase the transmission capacity between the island and the continent by up to 2,000 MW, encouraging the development of renewables in Southern Italy and improving the resilience of the network.
Among the approved projects in 2024 there is also one underground line of 8 km which will connect the two new electrical stations of Telese and Amorosi, a support of the railway line High Speed/High Capacity Naples-Bari. The project will allow the demolition of 2 km of overhead lines near densely populated urban areas.
Also worth mentioning is two other interventions aimed at increasing the safety and efficiency of the high and very high voltage electricity grid. The first is the underground cable power line of approximately 10 km which will connect the primary substations “Messina Nord” and “Messina Riviera”. The second is part of the plan to reorganize the electricity network of the Sorrento Peninsula and it concerns the realization of two underground power linesof 3 km and 7 km respectively, in the municipalities of Solofra, Fisciano, Mercato San Severino and Baronissi.
The authorization of the interventions represents a decisive step towards a more resilient, safe and integrated electrical systemin line with national decarbonisation and sustainability objectives.
