The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Emini, who fell ill and was taken to hospital after being detained by the Irshad patrols, known as the “morality police”, on September 13 in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on September 16, caused outrage in the country. The demonstrations, which started after Emini’s funeral in her hometown of Sakkız on September 17, spread to many cities of the country.
EXECUTION FOR 15 THOUSAND PEOPLE
As the demonstrations continued in Iran, a demand came from the Parliament not to show ‘tolerance’ towards the demonstrators. That demand was interpreted as a ‘death sentence’ for 15,000 detainees. The letter, written by Iranian deputies, said: “A good lesson should be given to the protesters who wage war on the state and act like Daesh terrorists.”

Protesters are not backing down. Students rioted at Tehran Sharif University. Tensions in the country did not subside. Protesters attacked the base of a pro-Khomeini militia with a molotov. Pro-regime buildings were targeted in many cities.
