The fact that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced at the end of March that he had decided to postpone a crucial parliamentary vote on the proposal, “to avoid a civil war”, has not stopped the protesters.
The largest protest was held as in previous Saturdays in Tel Aviv where tens of thousands of people have participated. Smaller demonstrations have been held around the country.
The purpose of the controversial bill is, among other things, to give parliament the power to review decisions in the Supreme Court and appoint the institution’s judges. A wide range of critics fear that Israel’s democracy is in danger if the proposal becomes a reality.
