The 35-year-old Belarusian had his son Leo with him during the victory interview and he was asked if there is anything in his mother’s game that should be improved-and alleged serve to general delight.
– At the last tournament he thought the returns should be improved and then I improved them. Now I get to improve the serve, smiles Azareka who has three titles in Miami.
Veteran Azareka won the tournament in 2009 by beating Serena Williams in the final, 2011 by defeating Maria Sjarapova and in 2016 winning against Svetlana Kuznetsova.
– I’m the only one left from that time and I miss Maria Sjarapova and Serena Williams. I hope Serena will show up at some point. She was the most dreaded opponent and I want her to still play, says Azareka and sends an invitation.
In the next round, the 15-seeded Czech Karolina Muchova awaits.
