Carlos Alcaraz could roar his joy on court as he booked his second straight Wimbledon final.
– I tried not to play after his game and instead play after myself. It was difficult to break the “wall”, he says in the victory interview, referring to Daniil Medvedev.
It was Medvedev who was initially the strongest in the event. Alcaraz did wake up at 2-5, but Medvedev held on as the set went to a tiebreak. The world number five emerged victorious with 7–6 (7–1).
Was warned after an outbreak
During the same set, Medvedev also had an outburst against the referee when a ball was judged to have bounced twice. A supervisor was called and after discussions the star was given a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct.
– He says something very, very inappropriate, it could have been much worse for him, Eurosport’s commentator Maria Strandlund Tomsvik said in the broadcast.
Finished nicely
The Spaniard then continued on the beaten path and continued to grow into the match. To great cheers, he took home the third set strongly with 6–4.
Even in the fourth set, the world number three was strong and it ended 6–4.
Spanish participation in both the EC final in football (Spain-England) and Wimbledon awaits on Sunday, something that Alcaraz pointed out.
– It will be a good day for the Spanish people, he said smiling and was interrupted by boos and laughter from the British audience.
– I didn’t say we will win! It’s going to be a fun day, that’s all, he continued, making an apologetic gesture to the audience.
Alcaraz faces Novak Djokovic in the final.
