Tennis: Rafael Nadal is ready for the ATP tournament in Båstad

Another star is coming to Båstad. The 38-year-old superstar Rafael Nadal is ready for the ATP tournament Nordea Open.

Nadal has played in Båstad once before, in 2005, when he won the entire tournament aged just 19.

– I am happy to be able to play in Båstad this summer where I won one of my first ATP titles. I have great memories from there and am really looking forward to coming back and playing in front of the Swedish fans, he says in a statement on the tournament’s website.

The uncrowned Spanish clay king has won a total of 22 Grand Slams in his career, but has fallen significantly in the world ranking when the injuries started to occur. But there is no doubt that this puts additional star shine on the tournament.

The starting field in Båstad is extremely strong this year. From before, world number one Jannik Sinner and Norwegian world number seven Casper Ruud are ready.

– It is very big that one of the best tennis players of all time is playing the Nordea Open. We have had a good relationship for many years and are in constant contact. This year it was a good fit with his preparations for the Olympics in Paris, says tournament CEO Christer Hult.
