Tennis: Qualifier Olivia Gadecki for the WTA final in Mexico: “I got a little nervous”

Gadecki defeated Colombian Camila Osorio 6-2,6-3 in the semifinals to reach her first WTA final (the tournament in Mexico is at the high 500 level).

She is the third-lowest ranked player to reach a final this year and should the 22-year-old win, she will do so as the lowest-ranked.

– I thought I played exceptionally well throughout the match. I mean, I got a little nervous at 4-1, I started thinking a little bit ahead and stuff. But I just kept believing in myself, says Gadecki to the WTA website.

Before the tournament in Mexico, where the players are offered a helicopter between hotels and the match arena, Gadecki had not even reached the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament.

In the final awaits the 43-ranked Polish Magdalena Frech, who knocked out experienced Caroline Garcia 7-6(7-4), 7-5 in her semi-final.

She too is chasing her first WTA title.
