Rafael Nadal, 38, has been extremely strong in Båstad in recent days when he turned a 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 victory in both the quarter- and semi-finals.
Even in the final, it was a difficult start for the Spaniard when 51-ranked Borges took home the first set 6–3. The Portuguese continued to play steadily and effectively in the second set and Nadal never got a hold of the match.

The winning numbers in the second set were finally written at 6–2 and Borges thus secured his first ATP title in his career.
– I don’t know what to say. I have longed for this for a long time. I could not have played better, I am very emotional and proud, says Nuno Borges in the interview after the match.
Despite the loss, Rafael Nadal was satisfied after the week.
– I have enjoyed this amazing place this week. I’ve had some good matches and some not so good. Today was not my best day but Nuno did well. I want to thank everyone in Båstad who has made me feel at home.
