Novak Djokovic had defeated the Frenchman, Corentin Moutet, 2-0 in sets (6-3, 6-1) in the Masters tournament in Rome, Italy.
Afterwards, the 36-year-old Serbian stopped on his way out of the arena to sign some autographs. He was then hit in the head by what appears to be a water bottle.
According to Sky Italia reporting on the incident the tennis star bled from the head and immediately received medical treatment after being helped out by on-site security personnel. He then returned plastered to the dressing room.
Sky Italia also writes that the incident is being investigated by Italian police.
Djokovic did not speak to any media after the incident.
