Both she and the organizer want her to play in Austin’s WTA tournament February 22 to March 2.
– We love Madison and for months have been waiting in great expectation for her to play here in Austin, Texas, for the first time, says competition manager Christo van Rensburg according to Reuters.
When Keys signed up for the tournament, she was ranked 21st the world and rose to place number seven after her first Grand Slam title as a 29-year-old in Melbourne.
Since Austin is a lower ranked 250 tournament, only one top ten players in the world are allowed to participate. That place now goes to world sex Jessica Pegula.
Jumped off doha with thigh injury
-Although we wish the top ti-rule did not apply to our tournament, we respect WTA’s rules, says Van Rensburg and hope to see Keys in the starting field in the future.
Keys has dropped out of the WTA 1000 in Doha starting February 9 with reference to a thigh injury, a problem that followed her through her career.
In Doha is the world set Aryna Sabalenka and the world two iga Swiatek, which Keys defeated in his last two matches in the Australian Open.
