– I had problems that I don’t want to comment on, if that’s okay. I had to run back and forth to the toilet, I had no choice, says Muchova a little troubled in the victory interview at the Arthur Ashe stadium in New York.
Muchova had arguments with the referee about the toilet visits and had clear problems in the second set where she was given pills by the physiotherapist.
Leading 5–3 in the second set, 22nd seed Haddad Maia got a reaction out of nowhere. She was then reviewed by physio as the tears flowed. That was missed by Muchova who was on a visit to the toilet at the time. Haddad Maia then went out and won the next game as if nothing had happened in this strange match that had unexpected upsets.
Muchova reached her fourth Grand Slam semi-final and was in the final of the French Open last year but has struggled with injuries and illness and is only 52nd in the rankings.
