Tennis: Jessica Pegula won the chaos tournament in Berlin after saving five match points

When Kalinskaja hit the net and the victory was complete, the tears came and an emotional Pegula, who missed the clay season due to injury, could hardly believe that she had managed to turn around and sobbed into her jersey.

During the week on the grass in the German capital, four top ten players in the world were forced to retire due to injuries and illnesses. In addition, the tournament was disrupted by long rain breaks.

Yesterday, world number five Pegula’s semi-final against world number two Coco Gauff was broken at 7–5, 6–6(3–1). That match resumed at lunchtime and five points later, Pegula had won the tiebreak against his doubles partner 7–2.

Shortly afterwards, the final was played where Pegula won after great difficulty where she saved five match points.
