Sweden meets Australia in the Davis Cup at the end of the month. The match is played in the Royal Tennis Hall.
– It’s a great match. Australia is ranked second in the world and has many very good players, says Davis Cup captain Simon Aspelin.
It is clear that Mikael Ymer, who in December 2023 was suspended for 18 months after three missed stay reports, will be selected for the Swedish team. His suspension expires on the night of Saturday, January 18.
Ymer is already playing next week
26-year-old Mikael Ymer will, before the Davis Cup, compete in a challenger tournament in Luxembourg next week, for which he received a wildcard.
– The plan is for him to be nominated and be in the team, says Aspelin.
However, he has not decided exactly when Ymer will be added to the squad, but Aspelin is confident with his choice despite Ymer not playing for 18 months.
– I am sure that he maintains a high level. He has the tennis in him, he has the mental. He has been playing at this level for many years, he says.
Elias Ymer, Leo Borg, André Göransson and Filip Bergevi have already been selected for the Swedish team.
