Ten years in prison for shooting rap star

Prosecutors in Los Angeles had asked for 13 years in prison for Lanez, or Daystar Peterson as he is actually called, for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet after a party with influencer Kylie Jenner three years ago, the newspaper writes Variety.

He has also been convicted of harassing her via social media after the shooting.

The sentence was already handed down in December 2022 and the rapper has been in custody for the shooting, as well as possession of an unregistered weapon.

“Alcohol abuse and childhood trauma”

Lanez’s lawyers argued that he should be released from custody, given a suspended sentence and enter a substance abuse program. They have also appealed for consideration of Lanez’s “alcohol abuse and childhood trauma”.

During the trial, letters of recommendation were read from family members, members and leaders of several charities, as well as music industry stars, including Iggy Azalea, in an effort to help Lanez obtain an acquittal.
