A supporter of white supremacy who shot ten black people in a grocery store in Buffalo, USA, has been charged with hate crimes.
The U.S. Department of Justice raised Payton Gendronia against charges of 26 hate crimes as well as gun violations. The sentence could even result in the death penalty.
Minister of Justice Merrick Garland met with family members of the victims in the city today, Wednesday.
“No one in this country should be afraid because of their skin color when they are on their way to work or shopping at the grocery store,” Garland said at a news conference.
The man had previously been charged with, among other things, internal terrorism, attempted murder, firearms and ten murders.
Gendron attacked a grocery store in Buffalo, New York on May 14th.
Gendron is already facing life imprisonment without the possibility of parole due to previous charges.
