US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is to undergo a medical procedure and is therefore handing over responsibility to his Deputy Secretary of Defense.
The statement from Defense Headquarters Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder is a direct consequence of the previous criticism when the 70-year-old Austin was treated in hospital last winter for two weeks without informing about the procedure or handing over powers.
Then the treatment concerned side effects after a prostate procedure. But the period of illness was longer than expected, while key people in the White House and the State Department were not informed of the situation.
Since then, routines have changed within the American civil service. Temporary replacement is Assistant Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks.

A woman was taken to hospital by ambulance after a fight outside Eskilstuna.
The alarm came just before 9 p.m. and the police went out to a home in the countryside, north of Eskilstuna, according to police spokesperson Olle Älveroth.
– It is a little unclear exactly what has happened. We have cordoned off the place, he says.
The police have not yet issued any criminal classification.
The Tidö parties’ proposal to allow anonymous witnesses in preliminary investigation and trial is rejected by the Legislative Council, reports Ekot in Sveriges Radio.
The added value of introducing anonymous witnesses “appears to be very limited” and “the proposal may lead to the courts receiving a worse basis for judging the case”, writes the Law Council in its statement.
“The limited benefit of the proposal, seen in the light of the strong principled concerns it gives rise to, leads the Legislative Council to the conclusion that the proposal should not be implemented,” the council writes further.
If the government – which went ahead with its Legislative Council referral despite strong criticism from, among others, the Judicial Ombudsman and the Courts Agency – chooses to proceed with the bill, the Legislative Council proposes several changes to the wording.
Introducing anonymous witnesses was one of the promises in the Tidö Agreement between the governing parties (the Moderates, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals) and the Sweden Democrats.

Passers-by saw the accident and broke the window of the store to get in and help the person.
The person has now been taken to hospital by ambulance.

A so-called caffeine snus – which should not contain either tobacco or nicotine – from the brand XQS is recalled, writes the Swedish Food Agency. Nicotine snuff has accidentally ended up in several of the boxes.
The recalled product is XQS Citrus Cooling Functional Pouches (50 milligrams of caffeine) with lot number CC003102.
“Unfortunately, a limited number of boxes have received the wrong products in the boxes. The incorrect product in the doses contains nicotine and should not be consumed. The nicotine content has been shown to be 6.13 mg of nicotine per bag/portion. This is mainly noticeable by the fact that the portions are more yellow in color than those with caffeine, which are more or less completely white,” writes the company Insurgent Ventures II in a press release.

The UN International Court of Justice in The Hague orders Israel to end the offensive in Rafah, according to Reuters.
It is South Africa that has asked the ICJ to order Israel to end the offensive against Rafah, halt military operations across Gaza, and grant international investigators and journalists access to the besieged strip of land.
South Africa has repeatedly accused Israel of genocide in Gaza. Israel, in turn, has claimed that the South African accusations are completely false.
The UN Court hears disputes between sovereign states. The ICJ’s rulings are binding, but the court has in practice no power to compel states to act on its rulings. For example, the court has ordered Russia to stop the war against Ukraine.
The Austrian writer Walter Kappacher has died, aged 85, according to the news agency APA.

Why did 2 ambulances and 3 police cars with sirens and blue lights just pass by in Vasastaden?
Hannah
Hello! There has been an accident at the subway at Odenplan.
Have you published anything regarding the authority for psychological defense reporting tv4’s cold facts for the report on SD’s alleged troll factory?
Alex
Hi Alex, we have written about this.
What was the audience score at Taylor Swift’s concert? Can’t find it in any of the articles.
Lego
Hey Lego! We wonder about that, Taylor Swift said on stage that it was an audience record yesterday and we’ve been looking for the organizer all day without an answer unfortunately! Will update you as soon as we know more.
Don’t understand what the difference is between SD’s “troll factory” and Aftonbladet’s culture pages.
Can someone explain how it differs from e.g. Anders Lindberg’s texts and word pooping?
albino
The difference is that Anders writes his own opinions and signs with his own name.
A “troll factory” is a hidden organization that spreads misleading information for propaganda purposes – without being clear about who the sender is.
Then the 7-year-old and the press office can also stop selling sweets and soft drinks?
Strange that they should control what the customer requests.
I expect snus will also stop being sold just like cigarettes.
Should they have vegetables and vitamins instead?
Now former customer
They cannot control demand – but they can control their own supply. If they don’t want to sell cigarettes, they are free to stop doing so.
However, they seem to want to continue selling snus, as well as sweets and soft drinks.
Here you can read more about how they reason.
