The Social Democrats want to increase the pressure on the banks to lower their mortgage rates. Among other things, they want to ban the banks’ so-called list interest rates on mortgages.
– Today, the banks try to make it unnecessarily complicated for households to understand why they get a certain interest rate, says Mikael Damberg, economic policy spokesperson for S.
– That would put the customers in a completely different negotiation situation, he says of the proposal.
The list rate is the rate that the banks market, but in practice it is often well above what the average customer actually pays, as many negotiate a lower rate.
For the bank customer, it is often difficult to understand how the list rate is actually calculated and how good a discount you may have received. If the banks instead work based on average interest rates, it will be clearer for the customer, believes S.

The metropolitan area of Baalbek had a pre-war population of over 100,000, but many have left since Israel launched large-scale attacks on Lebanon on 23 September.
