A teen was charged after officers responded to a weekend report of gunfire and seized a shotgun, St. Thomas police say.
Officers were called about 5:30 pm Saturday to investigate a report of gunfire at a south-end home, where officers seized a shotgun, police said. Nobody was hurt.
A St. Thomas resident, 16, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged careless use of a firearm, police said.
The teen was released on an undertaking, a document created by either a court or police that places the accused under certain conditions rather than holding them for a bail hearing.
This is the third case of gunfire in St. Thomas this year. No such incidents were reported in 2022.
Most recently, a woman, 24, was shot and critically injured in her third-floor apartment at 341 Talbot St., where her dog also was shot and killed.
James Brown, 40, is charged with attempted murder, injuring or killing an animal, possessing a firearm contrary to a probation order, possessing a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. He remains in custody.
On Jan. 7 year old 18-year-old male was shot and critically injured in his family’s Palm Street home. Investigators haven’t laid charges in the case.
