Dangerous challenges are on the rise on TikTok. A 16-year-old boy was rushed to a burn center after making a homemade flamethrower.
It’s yet another TikTok challenge that turned tragic. After making a “homemade” flamethrower – using an aerosol can and a lighter – a young man by the name of Mason Dark literally “burned” on the spot. He was rushed to hospital.
After catching fire, the young man allegedly jumped into the river
It was after lighting a “homemade bomb” – made using a spray can and a lighter – that Mason Dark caught fire.
According to DailyMailMason’s family reportedly heard a “big boom”, before seeing the teenager rush outside and jump into the river.
The 16-year-old boy would then have emerged from the water “with third degree burns on his body and on his face“.
Since this tragedy, the teenager has been hospitalized in a burn center in North Carolina (80% of his body being “severely burned”). But if Mason has already undergone surgeries in order to receive skin grafts; he’s staying “unrecognizable“, according to Holli Dark, the mother of the victim.
A kitty has been posted
Following this incident, a kitty was launched on the platform GoFundMe to help Mason’s family pay the hospital bills. More than 35,000 euros have already been collected and, on social networks, messages of support are pouring in.
As for Mason, his hospitalization should last about 6 months. On ABC News, his mother sends a message of caution to all young people: “Please listen to someone who is not your relative. Please listen to me. Don’t try these things. Don’t do it, don’t do it. It is not worth the trouble. It just takes a second for you to be in such a situation. And I’m not just talking about this particular challenge, but all the dangerous and risky things kids try. I want them to know, don’t. It’s just not worth it. Have fun. There are so many other things they can do for fun than taking those risks.“.
