A 15-year-old is facing an assault with a weapon charge in connection to an incident at Paris District High School on Friday.

The school was put in lockdown over the noon hour following a weapons complaint, said police.

Brant OPP officers responded to the school at about 12:24 pm to investigate a disturbance involving a student. The school was placed in lockdown for more than an hour meaning no one was allowed in or out.
The lockdown lasted for about 30 minutes
No one was injured in the incident.
In a letter sent to parents, the Grand Erie District School Board said it learned of rumors that a weapon had been brought into the school early Friday afternoon and immediately contacted police.
When police arrived it was determined there were no further threats to safety and security, the note to parents said.
A modified day was implemented while the police finished their investigation. Normal operations summarized to conclude the school day once it was lifted, the board said.

The board had child and youth workers at the school to assist students following the incident. The workers will be available to any student wishing to work though this next week.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff members is always our top priority, and we will always act with that goal in mind,” said the board.
During the incident the board posted on X, formerly Twitter, that all students and staff were safe during the incident.
Brant OPP officers, the emergency response team and the canine unit are involved in the investigation.
There was no threat to public safety, provincial police said.
The youth cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Last year, Brantford Police Service expressed concern over an increase in violence involving youth.
In April 2023 police charged a 15-year-old with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with an incident at Pauline Johnson Collegiate.
A 16-year-old was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm following a March incident at North Park Collegiate. No weapon was found in connection with the incident.
