The Swedish men’s national curling team began the journey towards EC gold yesterday. But Lag Edin surprisingly lost against the Czech Republic and were under a bit of pressure in today’s meeting with home team Scotland.

The reigning Olympic champions started strongly and took a huge toll on Scotland in the first round when they took a four-pointer.

– What a delicious start for Sweden, you might not have expected that, says commentator Niklas Nord.

But Scotland played themselves up and grabbed more points than Lag Edin in the subsequent rounds and after five rounds it was 5-4 to Sweden and it was set for a shocker.

“A bit too relaxing to lead 4-0”

But Sweden switched gears and before the last round, Lag Edin had pulled away and was finally able to bring home the victory with 8-5 against the reigning world champions.

– We managed to keep the good start we got, but it was a bit shaky in the middle, but Sweden’s play in the last rounds has impressed, says Niklas Nord.

Niklas Edin himself after the victory:

– It was a bit too relaxing to lead 4-0 after the first round haha, but I think we played very well at the beginning but then I missed some important stones, says Niklas Edin.
