A teacher at a high school in Jönköping is suspended without pay and reported to the police. The reason is that the teacher gave students the task of planning a hypothetical terrorist attack.
– This is totally injudicious. We also have a high terrorist threat level in the country, says Henrik Natt och Dag, head of education for the secondary schools in Jönköping municipality.
In one lesson, the now-suspended teacher gave an assignment to the students that consisted of theoretically planning a terrorist act. The teacher is permanently employed at the school, but the director of education does not answer how long the person has worked at the school.
What happened came to the attention of the school management on Friday last week after students raised the alarm.
– The assignment was given in an English lesson. It was students who contacted the principal and management about this. I would think that the task was perceived as unpleasant, says head of education Henrik Natt och Dag.
Unclear what the purpose was
The school is now investigating the incident and during that time the teacher is suspended without pay. It is still unclear how the teacher motivated the task.
– Locally, they are creating clarity as to what the purpose was, and what it is that has happened, says Henrik Natt och Dag.
– We take what happened very seriously and will therefore also report the incident to the police.
The headmaster at the school concerned has been in contact with students, guardians and information about what happened has gone out to staff.
