In Senegal, perhaps we are heading towards the end of the teachers’ strike, a strike that lasted almost ten weeks with, as the main point of demand for the unions, the increase in teachers’ salaries. After a final meeting with the government on Friday February 25, some unions decided to lift their strike slogan. But not all !

It was seen as the last chance meeting to finally reach an agreement between the striking teachers and the government which proposed a number of measures to get out of the crisis.
In these proposals, we can note, among other things, an increase in salaries in the various education bodies and an increase in the school bonus. Initially planned at 60,000 CFA francs, it has now risen to 80,000 CFA francs. In total, an envelope of 100 billion CFA francs, or nearly 153 million euros, will be released to meet the demands of teachers.
The elementary and preschool unions, satisfied with these proposals, have decided to lift their strike slogan. On the other hand, the unions of the middle and secondary cycles, in the majority, have decided to wait for the approval of their bases before accepting the government’s proposals.
