It all started when TV star and make-up mogul Kylie Jenner posted a picture of herself and her boyfriend Travis Scott in front of two planes and wrote “Should we take mine or yours?”. The image caused many to lash out at the reality star’s lack of environmental awareness, while others claimed the critics were just jealous.
Now the sustainability agency has Yard went through the data on celebrities flying by private jet and even if Kylie Jenner ends up on the list, she is not even in the top ten but in place 19. On the list, however, is her half-sister Kim Kardashian, who is in place number seven. Jenner’s boyfriend Travis Scott takes the tenth place on the list and at the very top is the artist Taylor Swift. According to Rolling Stone an interesting fact, since the star isn’t even out on tour right now.
According to Yard’s calculations, Taylor Swift’s private jet has been in the air for 22,923 minutes so far this year, which corresponds to 15.9 days. The plane is estimated to have released roughly 9.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which is 1,185 times more than the average emissions for a person in a year.
Earlier this week, several American media that looked at the use of private jets among celebrities claimed that some, such as the rapper Drake and Kylie Jenner, took flights as short as under 20 minutes. Drake has responded to the criticism and explains on Instagram that he was not on board during the short flights, but that they are flights for the purpose of re-parking the plane.
“For those interested in logistics… there are no passengers on board the plane,” Drake said in a video.
Taylor Swift has so far not commented on her flying.
