“This (contest) is extremely popular,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff, noting municipalities across Ontario have contacted Chatham-Kent about enlisting the public to name snowplows.
“The beauty is it doesn’t cost the municipality anything because of the generosity of Winmar stepping up, saying ‘We’ll cover the cost of doing this,’ Canniff said.

In keeping with the tradition of recognizing a local celebrity, Constancio named one plow Snow Wright, in honor of country singing star and Merlin native Michelle Wright.
She’s a great ambassador for Chatham-Kent, Constancio said.
Canniff said he recently spoke with Wright about it and “she loves the idea.” Next time she’s in Chatham-Kent, they’ll get a photo of her with her namesake plow.
Hall of Fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins was in town last year for the unveiling of Flurrie Jenkinshis name plow.
The new snowplow names will be spread among Chatham-Kent’s six wards, joining the 18 others previously picked.
