– Many do not want to talk about this and are afraid to report, says Mats Andersson, ombudsman of the Transport Workers’ Union.
The police are well aware of the problem with criminals taking taxis to crime scenes. In an email to SVT Öst, the police write:
“We fully understand that it creates an unsafe work environment and poses safety risks for the drivers. The taxi industry together with other actors in the transport sector are important to us in the police and several times their observations and tips have helped us prevent serious crimes and saved lives.”
The taxi driver testified in court
In the murder of the 16-year-old in Navestad, the suspected murderer took a taxi from Smedby to the crime scene. After that, the murder is said to have been carried out and the suspected perpetrator returned to the taxi, which then drove him back.
In court, the taxi driver has testified that he drove a customer the relevant route, round trip with a wait of about five minutes, while the murder was allegedly carried out. The driver has also said that he did not notice anything unusual about the customer.
According to a review that P4 did last year were taxi journeys important in more than half of the fatal shootings in large Swedish cities in 2023. I Malmö taxis have been popular with criminals because many cars do not have cameras there.
