TAX DATE 2022. Last hours to complete your tax return before Wednesday June 8 midnight. Beyond that, penalties will be applied to the income tax.
[Mis à jour le 8 juin 2022 à 15h00] Declaring online is the simplest, most flexible, quick and safe way to declare your income. All you have to do is connect to your particular space and let yourself be guided. For numbered departments from 55 to 974/976, you only have a few hours left! The final deadline is set for this Wednesday, June 8 midnight. After signing your declaration online, you can still modify it if you wish, until the declaration deadline. After midnight, it will be too late and penalties in the form of a surcharge of up to 40% of the total amount of income tax due in the summer will be charged.
You must continue to file your declaration each year because the tax authorities do not always have all of your updated information (property income for example, or alimony). This declaration therefore makes it possible to regularize your situation for the previous year by taking into account all your income but also your expenses (donations, expenses eligible for tax credits). In the majority of cases, if your income has not changed or if you have updated your situation over time on your Private space, it does not change anything, you will probably have nothing more to pay. On the other hand, if you have experienced an increase in income but have not reported it, you will surely have a balance to pay. In some cases, your tax return may also allow you to benefit from a refund. To avoid any misunderstandings, here is the full schedule of deadlines, department by department:
- Area 1: May 24, 2022 (departments n° 01 to 19) online
- Area 2: May 31, 2022 (departments no. 20 to 54) online
- Area 3: June 8, 2022 (departments no. 55 to 974/976) online
- All areas: May 31, 2022 (paper)
To declare online, you must connect to your private space with your tax number and your password. If you do not yet have a password, enter your tax number, your online access number and your reference tax income. You will find these identifiers on the tax return received in April (tax number and online access number) and on the tax notice received in August N-1 (reference tax income).
If you have forgotten your tax number or your password, on the authentication screen, the procedures allow you to recover your identifiers.
Once authenticated, select the “Declare my income” service. Your online declaration will be pre-filled with information known to the administration. All you have to do is verify your marital status, your address and the pre-filled amounts. You can correct them if necessary. Then, you will complete the other income you have received and the charges, reductions or tax credits to which you are entitled. Don’t forget to sign your online declaration for it to be taken into account.
The deadline for taxes online on impots.gouv.fr depends exclusively on your department number. In total, three zones have been determined by the tax authorities. Here are the deadlines that applied this year:
- 1time area: the May 24, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. for departments n° 01 to 19 and residents not resident in France
- 2th area: the May 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. for departments 20 to 54 including the two departments of Corsica
- 3th area: the June 8, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. for departments n° 55 to 974/976 (Meuse, Morbihan, Moselle, Nièvre, North, Oise, Orne, Pas-de-Calais, Puy-de-Dôme, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Pyrénées-Orientales, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Rhône, Haute-Saône, Saone-et-Loire, Sarthe, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Paris, Seine-Maritime, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Deux-Sèvres, Somme, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Var, Vaucluse, Haute-Vienne, Vosges, Yonne, Territory of Belfort, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Val-d’Oise, Reunion and Mayotte).
Paris (75) is part of zone 3 for this 2022 declaration campaign. De facto, the inhabitants of Paris have the possibility of completing their tax declaration until June 8, 2022, the final deadline this year. More generally, all the departments numbered from (55) to (974/976) and having declared their income online, by internet, have this deadline. After this deadline, you expose yourself to penalties in the form of an increase applied to your income tax due in the summer. Increases ranging from 10% to 40%.
Taxpayers who use the paper form have up to May 31, 2022, at midnight, to submit their income tax return, postmarked, regardless of their place of residence. The deadline is therefore the same for everyone. As a reminder, only taxpayers who do not have Internet access or who do not have the capacity to use digital tools can still use the paper form. Internet tax filing is now mandatory.
