Before this week, Åberg has lined up seven straight competitions, in the USA and Europe, where he has finished the worst in 14th place.
There has been one victory, in the European Tour competition in Switzerland, and it only feels like a matter of time before the 24-year-old Scanian also wins on the PGA Tour. In a rainy Georgia, Ludvig Åberg opened with a round of 67, five under par, which gives him a tie for fourth place after the first day’s play in The RSM Classic.
Åberg was three under par after 16 holes in the rain, when the weather caused play to be interrupted for the first time. Play resumed soon enough and Åberg then immediately rolled in a rather short eagle putt on his 17th hole, before finishing with a par.
When the weather stopped play again, it was over for the day. Many players get to finish their opening rounds on Friday.
Åberg is one stroke behind an American leading trio: Eric Cole, Cameron Young and Davis Thompson. Henrik Norlander (–3 after 13 holes) and Alex Norén (–2 after 12) belong to the group that did not have time to finish playing.
