A multi-week celebration of Chatham-Kent’s cultural diversity begins Saturday with more events to come throughout the summer and early fall.

Taste of Chatham-Kent (TOCK) will bring together cultural associations, businesses and community groups to showcase unique and exciting cultural activities across the municipality said a media release.
TOCK events kick-off Saturday with a Newcomer Picnic in the Park at Kingston Park to celebrate newcomers to Chatham-Kent and their cultures. The picnic begins at 11 am
The Chatham-Kent International Food Festival is taking place in Tecumseh Park from Aug. 16 to 18 that will also feature entertainment from many different cultures.
This will be followed by the CK World Cup Soccer Tournament Aug. 24, featuring feature a co-ed tournament, being hosted by the Portuguese Club of Chatham.
Teams are invited to register their “nation” to play in the tournament by Aug. 9.

The ONAM – Harvest Festival, hosted by the Malayalee Association of Chatham-Kent, is being held Sept. 7 from 10 am to 5 pm at Ferguson Park in Thamesville.
Yardez Vibes – Jamaican Kitchen & Lounge is hosting a Roots & Riddim Festival at 463 St. Clair St. from 11 am to 5 pm Sept. 7.
“Taste of Chatham-Kent brings cultural events throughout CK together in a way that can be shared and promoted within the community,” Mayor Darrin Canniff said in the release.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for Chatham-Kent to come together and celebrate our growing community, our growing cultural diversity, and all things that make Chatham-Kent an amazing place to live,” he added.
Organizers say other community and cultural groups plan events such as dance performances, live music, a special night at a restaurant, an open house or an activity showcasing their cultural heritage can send details to [email protected] to be added to the TOCK lineup.
The TOCK committee will work with groups hosting TOCK events to help promote and spread the word within the community.
