Tarantino’s Kill Bill 1: Condoms were used for the bloodiest scenes

Tarantinos Kill Bill 1 Condoms were used for the bloodiest

Quentin Tarantino has created one of the best modern revenge epics in cinema with his Kill Bill two-parter. Especially Kill Bill: Volume 1 is a stylistic fireworks full of brutal action choreographies and extremely bloody escalations.

Since Tarantino loves classic cinema and doesn’t think much of modern CGI, he’s also up for his action masterpiece handmade effects set. For example, condoms were used for the bloodiest Kill Bill scenes.

Here is another video by our colleague Yves about the Tarantino cult:

That’s why Quentin Tarantino is so popular! | The films of the cult director explained

Quentin Tarantino wanted to do without artificial effects completely for Kill Bill

A Time magazine report explains that Tarantino drew heavily on 1970s Chinese cinema for his Kill Bill saga. For the ultra gory effects, for example condoms filled with artificial blood used, which the cast let burst at the crucial point. Tarantino was also extremely specific when creating the fake blood:

I’m very careful with the blood, so we mix it up depending on the scene. I say: ‘I don’t want blood from horror movies, okay? I want samurai blood.’ You can’t pour that raspberry pancake syrup on a sword and make it look good. You must have that special kind of blood that you only see in samurai movies.

Quentin Tarantino has a love for the classic and, above all, trashy action cinema of the past decades special look created for Kill Bill: Volume 1. The brutal action epic captures the spirit of an era that is particularly close to the heart of the director through its handmade and deliberately exaggerated-cheap effects.

What do you appreciate about Kill Bill: Volume 1 that all the effects are handmade?
