Tarantino star Uma Thurman turned down the Lord of the

As an actress, Uma Thurman has been a Hollywood star for decades. One of the star’s absolute cult roles is her performance as a vengeful bride in Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2. But her career almost turned out completely differently before her engagement in the Quentin Tarantino two-parter.

Thurman was offered a Lord of the Rings role at the time, which she rejected for good reason. She still regrets it though.

Uma Thurman was set to play Eowyn in Lord of the Rings

In 2017, the actress appeared on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show to talk about her series Imposters. Right at the beginning, the moderator asks her whether it is really true that she rejected the offered role as Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Thurman then says it was the worst decision ever made. But in the early 2000s she had a good reason for it, because her first child, Maya Hawke, was born in 1998. At the time, she didn’t want to move to New Zealand with her young daughter for three years. Since the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed in one go, the cast had to be present on location the entire time.

The role of Éowyn was eventually played by Miranda Otto, which fans still consider to this day perfect choice hold. Since Thurman was signed for Tarantino’s Kill Bill shortly afterwards, the actress’s decision is, in retrospect, rather bittersweet.

Is Tarantino’s Kill Bill 3 coming?

In recent years there have been repeated rumors and hints about a sequel to Tarantino’s action epic. Most recently, for example, was Thurman’s daughter Maya Hawke cast as the main character’s daughter brought into play. However, there has not yet been a concrete production breakthrough for Kill Bill: Volume 3.

The project could remain a pipe dream forever, as Tarantino only wants to direct one feature film. This one is The Movie Critic.
