Tarantino masterpiece on TV for the first time today

Quentin Tarantino has created many acclaimed films throughout his career. With Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood he proved that he can still create intoxicating masterpieces 25 years after Pulp Fiction. Not least thanks to its actors Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. and what the latter performs in a scene, is in itself worthy of a hymn of praise.

On TV: Leonardo DiCaprio fights himself in the Quentin Tarantino highlight

Because his actor Rick Dalton is on the decline. As the role offers grow shabby and the alcohol levels become critical, only his trusty stuntman, Cliff Booth (Pitt), sticks by him. The scene is brilliant. DiCaprio goes from rage to despair and grief at a breakneck pace without transition, screaming, stuttering, scolding and threatens his reflection with suicide at the end. The effect is somewhere between a fit of tears and incredulous amazement. The character’s entire emotional palette is masterfully illuminated here in staccato.

What’s more, it’s not DiCaprio’s only terrific scene. He and Pitt deliver the film over quasi a duel of unbelievable performances and were rightly both nominated for an Oscar.

For this reason, among others, the film sparked critical acclaim (via Metacritic). The Guardian called him “outrageous, misleading, ruthless and brilliant.” Tarantino pulled off a heartfelt, funny, gripping and sometimes ultra-brutal masterpiece about the Hollywood of his childhood. DiCaprio’s insane fit pulls together the film’s fantastical concoction beautifully.
