LAHTI. In the second final, a surprise name became the decider of the Ice Hockey Championship League finals, when the Tappara defender Joni Tuulola ran away in the second set to drive through.
Tuulola shot the puck to the top shelf and scored his first goal of the spring in an important place. The 3–0 hit was the winning goal of the match, as the Pelicans scored two narrow goals.
– I always make a good pass, Tuulola smiled to Urheilu.
Tuulola says that he has been through a few times during his career. The defender immediately had in mind what he was trying to do.
– At that point, I thought that we would go get the upper grandmother on the shield side. This time it sank.
Tuulola was also involved in Tappara’s opening goal. The defender won the fight in the attack zone and a moment later found Tuulolaa in the defender’s place Otto Rauhala sent the puck into the goal. Heikki Liedes missed his bat and Tappara took the lead.
– This was a really good hockey match. We certainly saw the two best teams in this kingdom.
Heljanko brings peace
It has seemed to the audience that the series has been completely under Tappara’s control. However, Tuulola can see that both matches have been even.
– Both could have turned in either direction. The Pelicans have been playing really well and we have been able to respond to that.
Tappara has been particularly strong in front of goals. Tuulola praises the defenders and centers, but also emphasizes the goalkeeper Christian Heljangon significance.
– It helps when you have a guy like Heljango behind you. Then you can play one-on-one strongly. He gives peace. If you take care of your own business, it usually pays off.
According to Tuulola, the series 2-0 doesn’t mean anything yet. Four wins are required for the championship.
– That is our only goal here. On Friday, you should be able to load everything into the rink again. We’ll see where we are after that.
– It doesn’t matter what happened in the past, but what happens next.
