With Morocco, the DRC and Zambia as opponents, Tanzania will arrive in Ivory Coast with the ambition of doing better than during its second participation in 2019 in Egypt where the team was eliminated after the group stage with three defeats. The first participation of Tanzanians dates back to 1980 during the CAN in Nigeria. To qualify for the final phase, the Taifas Stars finished second in their group behind Algeria. They have two wins, two draws and two defeats.
Tanzania will take on Morocco on January 17, before facing Zambia and finishing the group stage against the DRC. During the second day of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, Tanzania lost to Morocco (2-0).
Adel Amrouche will be able to rely on striker Simon Msuva who has 80 caps (19 goals) and who was Moroccan champion in 2021 with Wydad Casablanca. Simon Msuva recently played in Algeria at JS Kabylie, but he terminated his contract in December 2023. On the other hand, Mbwana Samatta was not selected by the coach. Team executives, Mzamiru Yassin and Aishi Manula will be present.
Currently in Egypt for its preparation, Tanzania will play a friendly match on January 7 against the Pharaohs.
