Tanzania evicts thousands of Maasai families from ancestral lands NGOs

As Friday, August 9 marks the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Tanzanian government has evicted tens of thousands of Maasai people from the Ngorongoro Crater National Park in two years. These semi-nomadic pastoralists have been living in the globally significant biodiversity site since before it was created. Dodoma says they have become too numerous to properly protect nature, but NGOs accuse the government of trying to develop tourism.
