At least nine people have been killed and around 40 injured since a tanker exploded in the South African city of Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, the emergency services say.
The tanker got stuck under a bridge near a hospital after which the explosion occurred. Videos posted on social media show people running from the flames and cars speeding away from the scene.
Several patients had to be evacuated from the hospital after parts of the roof of the building collapsed as a result of the explosion, the BBC reports.
About ten of the injured are said to be in critical condition and another ten are seriously injured. Six firefighters were also slightly injured in the explosion, according to a spokesperson for the rescue service.
