Tank has so much armor that the opponents don’t dare to attack anymore

Overpowered in Baldur’s Gate 3. A tank has so much armor that opponents don’t even want to attack it anymore – they have almost no chance of hitting anyway.

In Baldur’s Gate 3 you have the opportunity to shape your characters as you wish. As befits D&D, you can also create pretty crazy combinations that are just overpowering – but that’s mostly intended or at least supported by the game. But sometimes a character can just be too strong. A tank has so much armor that opponents won’t even try to attack it.

What is that value? In Baldur’s Gate 3, armor class (“AC”) determines your defense in most cases. Attackers must roll over your armor value or an attack will fail. Reddit user “xXDANG3RDANXx” shows a screenshot of his tank reaching 27. Since opponents roll a d20 and get bonuses on it, most of the attacks will fail almost automatically.

It is mentioned in the comments that there is even more to create here. With a special armor it is possible to reach even a value of 30 armor. However, the thread creator advises against it, because then all enemies would probably immediately run away.

Do enemies react to this? Yes. Even if the AI in Baldur’s Gate sometimes makes somewhat questionable decisions, it mostly tries to choose logical actions. When a character’s armor is so high that an attack is almost guaranteed to fail, enemies tend to pounce on easier targets—usually mages or other ranged attackers. Of course, you can also use this to tactically block paths or get enemies to accept long detours.

Are you then invincible? No. While high armor is a solid base, characters can still be defeated. Many spells deal area damage that gets through all or part of it, no matter how high your armor is. Also, environmental effects, such as falling off a cliff, can still be deadly.

So you can create a pretty powerful character in Baldur’s Gate 3, but don’t feel completely safe about it.
