Talbot Street in St. Thomas closed, buildings evacuated after gas leak

Four buildings on the main street in downtown St. Thomas have been evacuated because of a natural gas leak, the St. Thomas fire department says.

Talbot Street is closed between Manitoba and Alma streets and police and firefighters are on the scene, the fire department said in social media post at about 11:30 am Friday.

Fire Chief David Gregory said the leak occurred in a building at 827 Talbot St. Four nearby buildings with apartments above them were evacuated. No injuries have been reported.

Staff from Enbridge are working on stopping the leak, Gregory said.

First responders are asking the public to steer clear of the area. There is no estimate on when the street will reopen.

London man dies in crash near Ingersoll

A London man died and another person was taken to hospital after a two-vehicle crash Thursday near Ingersoll, Ontario Provincial Police say.

The crash occurred on Pigram Road near the intersection of Pigram and Salford roads in South-West Oxford Township at about 6:45 pm, police said.

A 48-year-old London man was taken to hospital, where he later died of his injuries from the collision, police said.

A second person, who had minor injuries, was taken to hospital for treatment.
