Taiwan’s military on high alert – China ramps up exercises | News in brief

China’s naval and air forces are bulging around Taiwan. The outcry is likely a protest against the Taiwanese president’s trip abroad.

Taiwan’s military is on high alert, and combat readiness exercises are starting in the country’s maritime areas. The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan informs about it.

It’s about the reaction to Chinese warships and coast guard ships spotted in waters near Taiwan. China has also restricted the use of airspace along its east coast.

China has sent nearly 90 naval and coast guard ships to Taiwan’s surrounding waters, a Taiwanese security service source told Reuters.

Neither the Chinese military nor state media immediately commented on the matter. In recent days, there has been speculation that China will start military exercises in response to Taiwan’s president Lai Ching-ten for a tour of the Pacific last week.
