Wheelchair winder Leo-Pekka Tähti and rider Laura Kangasniemi will carry the Finnish flag at the opening of the Paris Paralympics on Wednesday. The opening ceremony starts at 21:00 Finnish time and can be watched on TV2.
Kangasniemi is participating in the Paralympics for the first time.
– It’s amazing, it’s a great honor to carry the Finnish flag in the first Paralympics. I watched the opening of the Olympics before, which was super great, so I’m looking forward to what’s in store, says the 24-year-old from Aspenwater.
Tähti, who is one of the team’s strongmen, is competing in his sixth and last Paralympics.
– It is an honor to carry the Finnish flag again at the opening ceremony. I have carried the flag once before in London 2012, and it left great memories. Of course, I’m also taken with the fact that these are my last Paralympics, that I got the honor of being able to carry the flag one more time, Tähti says.
