The sun is high in the sky when the high school students at Stenkulaskolan in Malmö jump between different activities in the school yard. The aim is for the students to get an insight into what associations there are to get involved in the city.
A group of students in the eighth grade are currently learning to break dance. One of them is Nasifa Asghar, who is trying it for the first time.
– It was my dream to dance in the future, she says.
Prevents students from ending up on the “wrong path”
Activities like these are one of several initiatives that the city of Malmö is making to prevent young people from ending up on the “wrong path” – such as in crime or drug dealing.
In that work, association life can play an important role, believes Frida Trollmyr, development coordinator at the city of Malmö, and also a former municipal councilor for the Social Democrats.
– I think that it is an important protective factor for children to have an activity in their spare time, says Frida Trollmyr.
