Tadej Pogacar distinguished himself during the 4th stage on Tuesday 2nd July between Pinerolo, west of Turin, and Valloire in the French Alps. The Slovenian arrived alone after dropping his opponents of the day in the last kilometre of the legendary Col du Galibier. The UAE leader won with a 35-second lead over Belgian Remco Evenepoel. His great rival Jonas Vingegaard had been the only one to manage to follow him, but the Dane had to give up ground shortly before the summit and was caught on the descent towards Valloire to finally finish fifth in the stage. In addition to winning a twelfth stage on the Tour de France, the last winner of the Giro d’Italia reclaims the yellow leader’s jersey. On Wednesday, July 3, the Tour de France will return to the plains for the fifth stage, which will take the peloton over 177 km from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Saint-Vulbas, in Ain. The sprinters should have a second opportunity to shine after the victory of Eritrean Biniam Girmay in Turin on Monday.
