Table Tennis: Truls Möregårdh Outclassed in the replay from the Olympics against Wang Chuqin: “Overcurring”

Truls Möregårdh’s success story at the Paris Olympics, with double silver, began when he beat Wang Chuqin in his first match in the single game.

When the world’s 20 best players started in the WTT Champions world tour competition in Chongqing, China, the duo met again.

And especially the match ball became raffling.

Both players picked up the balls low down at the floor and Möregårdh hit themselves as he tried on a snake. The players smiled when they thanked for the match – it was the only smile from Möregårdh during the match.

– You have to remember that Wang Chuqin plays terribly well too, barely makes a mistake. He makes no mistakes at all with his backhand. It doesn’t feel like Truls keeps up with the pace either, says expert Jan-Ove Waldner about Wang’s superiority.

There was not much to fight in the end, Wang won with 11-7, 11-6, 11-4.

When it started to leave at the beginning of the third set, Dad Carl Möregårdh took a timeout to try to find something. Without success.

– It was overrun and the best bet I’ve seen by a player in this tournament, says Waldner.
