Table tennis: The best in world history Ma Long led China to team World Cup gold – now says goodbye

35-year-old Ma Long won his 14th World Cup title and can add five Olympic golds to that, just to highlight the top merits.

– It has been a long and memorable journey for us, especially after yesterday’s tough semi-final. After the long day yesterday, I have to thank the team that believed in me and gave me the confidence to play in what was my last team World Cup. It was a perfect ending with winning the tournament, says Ma Long via a Chinese interpreter in Viaplay’s broadcast.

Got the dent from the Swede Petra Sörling

Yesterday, China beat South Korea 3-2 after Ma Long lost his match.

Ma Long decided on his first match point against Gauzy who pulled a rebound into the net. Without any particular expression of emotion, Ma Long thanked for the match and it was quite calm in the Chinese camp before they quietly walked around with a national flag to celebrate their 23rd team World Cup gold.

The International Table Tennis Federation’s Swedish president, Petra Sörling, handed out the World Cup trophy.

Sweden went out in the round of 16 against Taiwan with 2-3.
