Table tennis: Linda Bergström in tears after the EC exit – reveals injury

Linda Bergström stood up well in the meeting with the Romanian Bernadette Szocs, twelfth in the world ranking, but it was a loss with 2–4 (11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 7-11, 8-11, 11-13) in sets.

– I should win this match, but my body can’t take it, says Bergström, ranked 51st, to SVT Sport.

The 29-year-old has had problems with his right wrist and played injured.

– I’m mostly angry at my body, that things hurt and that it doesn’t respond the way I want. It was a gamble to play all classes this week, unfortunately it didn’t work out.

May have made his last EC

Bergström is aware that it was possibly the last chance for her to reach a medal.

– It’s hard, it was my best chance for a long time.

Can there still be pride in your pushing her?

– No, it’s just bad.

Looking at the schedule, are you being pushed too hard?

– It is what it is, you know about the schedule a while before and then you have to take a position beforehand. In my opinion, it is not possible to play this tournament in four days.

– We will all present it to the organizers.
