– For a set and a half he dominated and then I found a way into the match with my serve and return game, was able to attack more, and played a lot of backhand-backhand. It changed a lot, says Källberg to SVT Sport.
It was the first time that Swedish players reached a WTT Champions semi-final and Källberg can mark another milestone by reaching the final.
Källberg advanced to 10-4 and six match points in the sixth set. Möregårdh saved the first and took a timeout. Källberg then decided immediately and celebrated with clenched fists and the towel in his arms.
Won four out of five meetings with Möregårdh
After Möregårdh won the first set clearly, Källberg turned and took command after heavy shots with his dreaded forehand.
Källberg won 4-2 (6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5) and has now won four of their last five meetings.
In the final on Sunday at 15:00, Källberg will face Chinese world number two Lin Shidong, who won their only previous meeting. Lin knocked out reigning Frankfurt champion Lin Yun-Ju 4-0 (11-9, 13-11, 11-2, 11-8).
“Knows how to do”
– I think the final will offer a wonderful match, says Lin Shidong via a Chinese interpreter.
Lin Shidong is the world’s fittest player.
– It will be super tough. He has won a couple of tournaments and knows how to do it and is in great shape, says 27-ranked Källberg, who will be a real underdog.
